Defend jobs and education at Havant and South Downs College

Havant and South Downs College is in financial crisis and management is currently consulting with the trade unions about an organisational restructure which could lead to many teaching staff losing their jobs. Up to one-third of teachers may find themselves without a job next academic year if management proceed with the cuts.

In addition to the impact on our students and staff facing redundancy, remaining teaching staff may face increased workloads potentially leading to higher stress levels and sickness.

The cuts required to enable the college to remain functional amount to approximately £4.5m. Across the three sites this means a reduction in staff of 29% at Alton, 30% at Havant and 33% at South Downs.

This huge organisational restructure will have a serious impact on the provision of education to our students, as well as devastating implications for the many staff who face losing their jobs through no fault of their own.

We are calling on the Principal, Executive Leadership Team and the Board of Governors to work together with UCU, NEU and Unison to find a solution to the crisis facing HSDC that provides long term financial stability and academic leadership for the college.

We call on the management of HSDC to cease or minimise cuts to courses and jobs to ensure students can continue to receive a wide range of academic and vocational courses at HSDC.

Please sign this petition to stand against the job cuts and defend education.
